OCtech’s Free Family Movie Nights Kick Off Thursday with ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a series of free family movie nights beginning Thursday with the fantastical Dick Van Dyke classic “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.” All titles that will be shown during family movie nights were released in or are about 1968, the year OCtech opened its doors to students. First Citizens Bank Donates $25,000 to OCtech Foundation

First Citizens Bank has donated $25,000 to the Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Foundation. Making History at OCtech: First Recipient of Associate’s Degree at School Retired as SCANA Manager

When David Abstance Jr. walked across Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical Education Center’s quad in his cap and gown on August 20, 1970, he made history. His last name meant that Abstance was the very first person to receive an associate degree from Orangeburg-Calhoun TEC. He was one of 22 students to receive a degree at the ceremony. “I had no idea what I wanted to do after high school,” the Denmark native said. “TEC was a brand-new school, and I was in the first class. Calhoun Pledge Offers Recent Calhoun County Graduates Free OCtech Tuition

There’s still time to apply for free or low-cost tuition at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College. OCtech is offering its own version of the recently announced SC Promise Scholarship to residents of Calhoun County. The Calhoun Pledge Scholarship is funded by Workforce Pathways Scholarship funds and the OCtech Foundation. Recipients are eligible for up to $2,000 for tuition, fees and books. The Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Foundation will hold its 14th annual Evening of Fine Wines and Foods from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, in the Patrick Student Services Building on the campus of OCtech.
