OCtech Honors PN Class of 2020 During Virtual Pinning Ceremony

The Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Practical Nursing program held a virtual pinning ceremony for its traditional and FLEX PN Class of 2020 on Thursday, Aug. 6. During the ceremony, 68 practical nursing graduates were pinned by loved ones via Zoom. Keynote speaker was Rhonda Browning, PN instructor at the college. Honored for outstanding academic achievement were Kayla Baker, who earned the highest GPA in the traditional class, and Candice Chase, who earned the highest GPA in the FLEX class. OCtech Fall Classes Begin Online Aug. 17

Fall classes at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College will begin online Monday, Aug. 17. Lab classes are an exception and will meet face-to-face in small groups as originally scheduled. However, all other classes will meet virtually until Monday, Sept. 21. Fall classes are available in a variety of formats, including traditional, online, hybrid or synchronous online. The Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Associate Degree Nursing program held a virtual pinning ceremony for its traditional and transition ADN Class of 2020 on Monday, June 1. During the ceremony, 36 registered nursing graduates were pinned by loved ones via Zoom. OCtech Enhances Safety Measures for Return to Campus

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College is taking extra precautions to make sure its students, faculty and staff are safe when summer and fall classes resume on campus. Summer courses – which begin Monday, June 1 – will be held online until July 6, at which time classes requiring lab hours will meet in small groups with social distancing guidelines in place. Students, faculty and staff will be given masks, which must be worn in classroom and lab settings as well as other common areas, and workstations campus-wide will be spaced at least six feet apart with occupancy at 50 percent or less. …

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College will hold its 2020 graduation ceremony Tuesday, Dec. 15, and a special drive-thru diploma pick up for spring graduates Thursday, June 18. OCtech Foundation Receives $10,000 for Scholarships from Cypress Creek Renewables

The Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Foundation has received a $10,000 gift from Cypress Creek Renewables for student scholarships. From left are OCtech Foundation Chair Donna Matthews, Cypress Creek Renewables Project Developer Ben Manuel and OCtech Foundation Executive Director Faith McCurry. Cypress Creek Renewables developed Palmetto Plains, South Carolina’s largest solar farm, in Bowman. The OCtech Foundation will begin awarding the scholarship to OCtech students from the Bowman area or graduates of Bowman-Bethune High School – with a preference given to those majoring in engineering technology programs-old-old-old-old at the college – in the fall.

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College was one of 30 community colleges nationwide vying for a prestigious Bellwether Award at the 26th annual Community College Futures Assembly, held Feb. 2-4 in San Antonio, Texas. Ten finalist colleges were competitively chosen in three categories: Instructional Programs and Services, co-sponsored by the National Council of Instructional Administrators; Planning, Governance and Finance, co-sponsored by the National Council of State Directors of Community Colleges; and Workforce Development, co-sponsored by the National Council for Continuing Education and Training.
