OCtech Foundation’s 2023 Spring Home and Garden Symposium is May 9

The Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Foundation will hold its 17th Home and Garden Symposium Tuesday, May 9, on campus in the OCtech Math and Science Center. Guests will enjoy a brunch by Buckridge Plantation and have an opportunity to browse the silent auction before the formal presentation begins in Roquemore Auditorium. Seven-Week Terms Begin at OCtech This Fall

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College is changing the way its instructors teach and students learn with seven-week terms starting this fall. The new academic schedule is designed to improve student success while helping students move more quickly from college to career. Instead of taking four or five classes at one time in a standard 15-week semester, full-time students will complete two or three classes each seven-week term. Part-time students will only need to complete one or two classes each term. A week off between terms breaks up the semester. Financial aid will continue to be awarded based on the number of hours …

Three faculty and staff members have been honored as Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College’s Educators of the Year and were recognized during the South Carolina Technical Education Association’s annual conference Feb. 16-18 in Myrtle Beach. Human Resources director Marie Howell is the outstanding administrator; Automotive Technology program coordinator Kevin Kneece is the outstanding faculty member; and Healthcare Preparation academic advisor Elizabeth Rivers is the outstanding staff honoree. Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College has partnered with Google to help local workers move into high-growth, in-demand information technology jobs without ever leaving home. Online Google Career Certificates prepare learners for well-paying jobs in as little as three months in data analytics, digital marketing and e-commerce, IT support, project management and user experience (UX) design. The training is free, and space is limited to 35 participants in the first cohort. No prior IT experience is needed. Griffin Surrency and Dustin Holland are just two of the nearly 130 graduates who participated in Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College’s trio of summer graduation ceremonies July 29 at The Cinema. The Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Associate Degree Nursing program held a virtual pinning ceremony for its traditional summer ADN Class of 2020 on Thursday, Aug. 6.
