Adult Education Students Inducted into Honor Society

Twenty adult learners in the Orangeburg-Calhoun Adult Education program at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College were inducted into the National Adult Education Honor Society during a ceremony in March on campus in Roquemore Auditorium. The Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Physical Therapist Assistant program held its annual pinning and award ceremony Tuesday, May 15, on campus in Roquemore Auditorium. During the ceremony, 14 graduates received their pins and were presented with a green honor cord to be worn at graduation. Kyle Gero received the award for highest GPA, and Kaitlyn Huffstetler was honored for achieving the second-highest GPA. The Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Associate Degree Nursing program held its annual pinning ceremony Monday, May 14, at First Baptist Church of Orangeburg. During the ceremony, 29 registered nursing graduates received their pins. The keynote speaker was Connie Varn, retired ADN program coordinator and adjunct nursing instructor at the college. Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College’s Associate Degree Nursing and Practical Nursing programs-old-old-old-old are ranked among the best in South Carolina, according to websites dedicated to the professions. OCtech’s ADN program is ranked second out of 28 registered nursing programs-old-old-old-old in the state by RegisteredNursing.org, while the PN program is ranked fifth out of 16 licensed practical nursing/licensed vocational nursing programs-old-old-old-old in S.C. by PracticalNursing.org. Former State Rep. Harry L. Ott Jr., president of the South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation, will be the keynote speaker at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College’s spring graduation. The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, in the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center on the campus of South Carolina State University. First Lean Manufacturing Certificate Students Complete Training Program

Eastern Orangeburg County’s first Lean Manufacturing Certificate class is ready to go to work. Fifteen adults completed the training and received their certification during a ceremony April 19 at The Depot in Holly Hill. The course, taught by Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College’s Dean of Corporate Training and Economic Development Sandra Moore, began Feb. 12 at Lake Marion High School and encompassed 52 hours of lean manufacturing training – including OSHA 10-hour General Industry outreach training – and forklift operator certification.
