Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a series of free family movie nights beginning Thursday with the fantastical Dick Van Dyke classic “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.”
All titles that will be shown during family movie nights were released in or are about 1968, the year OCtech opened its doors to students. Also included in the lineup are the four-part CNN original series “1968: The Year That Changed America” and Disney’s “The Love Bug.”
- Thursday, Nov. 29 – “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” tells the story of a down-on-his-luck inventor who turns a broken-down Grand Prix car into a fancy vehicle for his children. They set off on a magical fantasy adventure to save their grandfather in a far-off land.
- Thursdays, Jan. 17 and 31 – “1968: The Year That Changed America” looks back at 1968, a year marked by seismic shifts in American politics, social movements and global relations, including cultural icons who forever changed the landscape. Parts I and II will be shown Jan. 17, and Parts III and IV will be shown Jan. 31.
- Thursday, Feb. 14 – A race car driver becomes a champion with a Volkswagen Beetle with a mind of its own in “The Love Bug.”
Movies begin at 6:30 p.m. on campus in Roquemore Auditorium. Free popcorn and bottled water will be served.
