OCtech Launches Employability Skills in the Workplace Course

Whether you want to change careers, start college or get a job, Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College’s new Employability Skills in the Workplace course can help.

This seven-week, online college credit course is designed to better prepare students to be competitive in the workforce.

Students will learn how to create an effective resume and cover letter while earning career-related certifications in communication skills, conflict resolution, dependability and reliability, employment basics, flexibility and adaptability, initiative, interpersonal skills, planning and organizing, productivity and teamwork.

The course begins Monday, October 16. Participation is limited to 50 participants for the fall semester, with more seats available beginning in the spring. Scholarships are available.

“The Employability Skills in the Workplace course covers key behaviors and skills that we see in successful team members at Zeus, including dependability, flexibility, interpersonal skills, productivity and teamwork,” said Melvilyn Edwards, senior human resources director at Zeus. “We look forward to seeing newly qualified job applicants who complete this course and hopefully go on to join our fast-growing team.”

In addition to Zeus, the Employability Skills in the Workplace course is endorsed by a number of local industries and entities, including Alpek, Calhoun County, City of Orangeburg, Department of Public Utilities, Dominion Energy, Husqvarna, Medical University of South Carolina, Orangeburg County, Orangeburg County Chamber of Commerce, SI Group, Starbucks and Tri-County Regional Chamber of Commerce.
