OCtech’s Automotive Technology Program Reaccredited

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College’s Automotive Technology program has been reaccredited by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). OCtech’s program continues to meet the requirements for Master Automobile Service Technology accreditation, the highest level of program accreditation recognized by the ASE, according to Michael Coley, president of the ASE Education Foundation. “The explosion in automotive technology makes OCtech’s high-quality automotive training program more valuable than ever,” he said. “We commend the college and its staff for maintaining the program’s standards, and continuing to meet the industry’s requirements.” OCtech’s Automotive Technology program is accredited through March 1, 2024. OCtech Foundation Board of Directors Welcomes Three New Members

The Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Foundation has welcomed three new members to its board of directors – Kay Blackwell, Rebecca Love and Joanie Thomas. Blackwell graduated in 1985 as a member of OCtech’s second Associate Degree Nursing class, and went on to receive a bachelor’s and master’s degree in nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina. She began teaching nursing in Hawaii and continued with each move she and her husband made during his years of military service. In 2000, when they returned to the area, Blackwell became an ADN instructor at OCtech. She retired in May 2017 as dean …

Three faculty and staff members have been honored as Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College’s Educators of the Year and are being recognized during the South Carolina Technical Education Association’s annual conference Feb. 14-16 in Myrtle Beach. Fran Andrews, Radiologic Technology and Radiologic Technology Online program coordinator, is the outstanding faculty member; Susan Bender-McGuire, an information technology specialist at OCtech, is the outstanding staff honoree; and Laney Cornelius, buildings and grounds supervisor, is the outstanding administrator. OCtech Professional Truck Driving Program Receives Grant to Train Veterans

The U.S. Department of Transportation recently awarded $95,726 to Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College to train active duty military service members, veterans and their families in careers as commercial truck and bus drivers. All current and former members of the U.S. Armed Forces, including National Guard and Reservists, as well as their spouses and children are eligible for the grant, which covers full tuition for OCtech’s Professional Truck Driving program. The grant is from the USDOT’s Federal Motor Carrier Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training Grant Program.
