Dr. Cerrissa Hugie, a 2014 graduate of Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College’s Practical Nursing program, will serve as keynote speaker at the college’s spring graduation. The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, in the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center on the campus of South Carolina State University. Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College’s Associate Degree Nursing and Practical Nursing programs-old-old-old-old are once again ranked among the best in South Carolina, according to websites dedicated to the professions. OCtech’s ADN program is ranked fourth out of 30 registered nursing programs-old-old-old-old in the state by RegisteredNursing.org, while the PN program is ranked fifth out of 16 licensed practical nursing/licensed vocational nursing programs-old-old-old-old in S.C. by PracticalNursing.org. The 2019 rankings are based on NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN pass rates over a five-year period, from 2014 to 2018 and 2013 to 2017 respectively. OCtech’s Phi Theta Kappa Chapter Receives Awards at Regional Conference

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College’s Alpha Alpha Delta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society received a number of chapter and individual awards at the 2019 Carolinas Regional Convention, held March 1-3 in Columbia. The chapter received a Five-Star Chapter Award – the highest designation a PTK chapter can receive – and Regional Honors in Action Project Award for its student food pantry at the Salvation Army in Orangeburg. As part of its ongoing 50th anniversary celebration, Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College is holding a Community Art Contest. The theme for the contest is “Learning and Growing,” and all media types will be accepted. The contest is open to residents of all ages in Orangeburg and Calhoun counties.
