Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College’s Electronics Engineering Technology program has been reaccredited through 2022 by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET.
ABET – the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology – is the recognized accreditor for college and university programs-old-old-old-old in applied science, computing, engineering and engineering technology. OCtech’s EET program was initially accredited in 2003.
“We strive to maintain the voluntary ABET accreditation for our EET program because of its reputation among employers and other colleges and universities,” said Richard Murphy, Dean of Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing Technologies. “When students complete OCtech’s EET program, employers can be assured they have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills to enter the workforce ready to go from day one.”
In granting accreditation, ABET reviewers cited the fact that OCtech’s EET program is the only program in the South Carolina Technical College System to offer a specialization in electronic instrumentation, allowing the program to recruit students and build industry partnerships throughout the state. The accrediting agency also noted that the EET program was highlighted in the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education’s Annual Evaluation of Associate Degree Programs Report in January 2015, which recognized the program as having the highest percentage improvement in graduation rate between 2012 and 2013.
OCtech’s EET program offers two-year associate degrees with specialization in either electronic instrumentation or engineering computer electronics. Graduates work in the advanced manufacturing, chemical, pulp and paper, and power generation fields.
