The Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Foundation has welcomed two new members to its board of directors – James “Jimmy” Jones and Craig Smith.
Jones, president of Jimmy Jones Toyota/Polaris in Orangeburg, is a 2005 graduate of the NADA Dealer Academy. He serves on the Orangeburg County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, One Orangeburg County Initiative Executive Committee, Toyota Dealer Advisory Board and Toyota Advertising Board. Jimmy Jones Toyota/Polaris sponsors the Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five Teacher of the Year, OCSD 5 Martin Luther King Jr. Oratory Contest and Orangeburg Christmas Parade, and actively participates in local events and festivals year round.
Smith, director of safety and human resources for Smith Trucking Inc. in Bowman, earned an associate degree in business hospitality and tourism management from the Culinary Institute of Charleston at Trident Technical College. He has served on the Board of Stewards for Bowman Southern Methodist Church and the First Presbyterian Church Orangeburg Diaconate. Smith is an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Orangeburg, where he helps teach youth Sunday school class and volunteers for local mission projects. He also volunteers as a coach for the City of Orangeburg Parks and Recreation Department.
The Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Foundation was established in 1977 to further the educational aims of OCtech and its students and employees. It raises financial support in the community to assist the college through capital campaigns, annual fund drives and special events.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jimmy and Craig to our board,” said Faith McCurry, executive director of the OCtech Foundation. “Their unique knowledge, diverse experiences and fresh ideas will be wonderful assets as we continue to grow the Foundation.”
